Command palette

Finding any card or shell across your workspaces and running Bikube's actions from the keyboard with the command palette.

On this page

The command palette finds any card or shell in any workspace and opens it, and lists the actions that would do something right now, with their shortcuts. Everything stays on the keyboard.

Open it

Press ⌘K / Ctrl+Shift+P (default shortcut) anywhere in the main window: on a board, in an open card or shell, or with no workspace yet. Press it again, press Esc or click outside to close it with nothing run. It doesn't open over another dialog, and it isn't available in a card window.

The search field is empty and focused every time it opens. The palette keeps no query, selection or history, across opens or restarts.

What it finds

Results come in up to three sections, in this order: Cards, Shells and Actions. A section with no match is left out; with no match at all the palette reads No matches.

  • Cards: every card of every workspace, those of the current workspace first, then the other workspaces in sidebar order, each column by column from the left.
  • Shells: every shell of every workspace, the Default shell first, then named and temporary shells.

Each card or shell row shows its title and, below it, its workspace, its worktree branch when it has one, its status (Running, Stopped, SSH failed: …, Couldn't start) and its activity (Working, Waiting for you, Needs your answer). These update live while the palette is open, and you can search all of them: api waiting finds the cards of the api workspace that are waiting for you.

How matching works

Type one or more words separated by spaces. A row matches when it contains every word's letters in order, in any case, so fxlg matches Fix login. Within a section the best matches come first: a word that starts the title, then one that starts any word, then one found in a row, then letters scattered through it.

Open a card or shell

Pick a card or shell to open it at full size in its workspace, as clicking it would: Bikube switches to its workspace and starts it if it isn't running. A card in its own window brings that window forward instead.

Actions

The Actions section lists only actions that would do something now, each with its shortcut when it has one. They do exactly what their shortcut, button or menu item does.

Keyboard

KeyWhat it does
Up, DownMove the selection, wrapping at both ends. The first row is selected whenever the list changes.
EnterRuns the selected row and closes the palette.
EscCloses the palette, with nothing run.

The mouse works too: hover selects a row and a click runs it. When the palette closes, the keyboard goes back to where it was, so a terminal you were typing in keeps it. Keys typed in the palette never reach a terminal.
