Getting started
Install
How to download and install Bikube on macOS and Linux, and what it needs to run.
On this page
System requirements
Bikube runs on:
- macOS on Apple silicon (M1 or later).
- Linux on x64, as a
.debfor Debian and Ubuntu or an AppImage for any distribution.
Windows isn't supported. To build Bikube from source, follow the app's README.
Download
The Download button at the top of this page gets the latest release's file for your computer: the .dmg on a Mac, the .deb on Linux. Every file of every release is on the releases page.
Which Linux file to pick
- The .deb on Debian, Ubuntu and their derivatives. It adds Bikube to the app menu and the
bikubecommand, and sets up Chromium's sandbox, so it is the way to run Bikube sandboxed on Ubuntu 23.10 and later. - The AppImage on any other distribution. It is one file you make executable and run; it needs FUSE 2.
Install notes
macOS (Apple silicon)
Open the .dmg and drag Bikube to Applications.
Bikube isn't signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS blocks the first launch: open System Settings › Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
Or clear the quarantine flag in a terminal:
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Bikube.appLinux: .deb (Debian, Ubuntu)
Install it with apt:
sudo apt install ./bikube-0.10.0-amd64.debIt adds Bikube to the app menu and the bikube command, and sets up Chromium's sandbox.
Recommended on Ubuntu 23.10 and later: it's the way to run Bikube sandboxed there.
Linux: AppImage (any distribution)
Make it executable, then run it:
chmod +x bikube-0.10.0-x86_64.AppImage
./bikube-0.10.0-x86_64.AppImageIt needs FUSE 2:
sudo apt install libfuse2On Ubuntu 24.04 and later, install libfuse2t64 instead.
Where unprivileged user namespaces are restricted (Ubuntu 23.10 and later) it runs without Chromium's sandbox; use the .deb there.
First launch
On macOS, the first launch is blocked until you allow it with Open Anyway (or clear the quarantine flag with xattr), as above. After that Bikube opens like any other app.
The first time Bikube opens, with no workspace yet, it asks how you want to see your session cards: Kanban (a column for each stage of the work) or Grid (every card in one grid, latest first). Continue makes your pick the default view for your workspaces; each workspace can still have its own, and you can change the default later in Settings. Then create your first workspace: see Your first workspace.
Updating
Bikube checks for a newer release by itself and offers it with Update Available. On macOS and with the AppImage it installs the update itself; the .deb links to the release to download it. See Updates.
