Settings
Every setting in Bikube by its label, grouped as the Settings dialog groups them, with its default value.
On this page
This page lists every setting in Bikube by its label, grouped by the sections of the Settings dialog, with its default.
Open Settings
Click Settings at the bottom of the sidebar, press ⌘, / Ctrl+, (default shortcut), or pick Open Settings in the command palette. Pick a section on the left (Up and Down move between them). Every change applies and is saved at once; Done, Esc or a click outside closes the dialog.
Settings are the same for every workspace and card, and kept per machine in bikube-settings.json (see Where Bikube stores its data). They are never synced.
Appearance
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Theme | System | System follows your OS's light or dark mode; Dark and Light fix one. |
| App theme | Default | The colours of the app around the terminals: Default, Bikube, Catppuccin, Rosé Pine, Nord or Gruvbox, each with a dark and a light version that Theme picks between. It never changes the terminals' colours. |
| App font | System (default) | The font of the board, menus and dialogs: the system font, an installed UI font, or Custom… with any CSS font family. Terminals keep their own font. |
| Default view | Kanban | The view of every workspace set to Default: Kanban or Grid. The first launch asks for it. |
| Card display limit | 10 | How many cards a Kanban column or a grid section shows before its Show all button, from 1 to 100. |
Terminal
The terminals' colours, font and behaviour. A Preview shows a terminal in the colours and font in effect.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Colours | Built-in themes | Built-in themes: one terminal theme for the dark app theme and one for the light, below. From Ghostty: the colours of your own Ghostty config, with the theme and file it read and a button to reload it. |
| Dark app theme | Bikube Dark | The terminal theme while the app is dark, picked from Ghostty's themes in a picker with a live preview. |
| Light app theme | Bikube Light | The terminal theme while the app is light. |
| Font size | 13 | From 8 to 32. |
| Font family | Default (Menlo on macOS, monospace on Linux) | An installed coding font, or Custom… with any CSS font family. Prompt icons (Nerd Font glyphs) work with any font. |
| Font weight | Regular (default) | Light, Regular, Medium or Semibold. Bold text stays bold. |
| Line height | 1.0 (default) | From 1.0 to 2.0. |
| Letter spacing | 0 px (default) | From 0 to 4 px. |
| Cursor | Block | Block, Bar or Underline. |
| Blinking cursor | Off | Makes the cursor blink. |
| Bold in bright colours | On | Bold text uses the bright ANSI colours, as most terminals do. |
| Scrollback | 10,000 lines | Lines each terminal keeps above the screen: 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 or 50,000. It also caps a card's kept output. |
| Keep output after a card stops | On | Keeps a card's output on this machine and shows it above its next start. Turning it off deletes all kept output. |
| Ask before closing a card | On | Closing a running card or shell asks first. Its dialog's Don't ask again turns this off. |
| Bell | None | What the terminal bell does: None, Flash or Sound. |
| Copy on select | Off | Selecting text in a terminal copies it. |
| Option as Meta | Off | macOS only: Option+B, Option+F and Alt shortcuts reach the shell instead of typing special characters. |
| Shell integration | On | Prompt marks and command status in zsh, bash and fish (see Shell integration). Applies to new terminals. |
| Inline images | On | Shows sixel and iTerm2 images in terminals (see Inline images). Applies to new terminals. |
Shell
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Shell | Login shell | The program new cards, panes and shells start: your login shell, one of the shells found on this computer, or Other… with an absolute path. Running terminals keep theirs. SSH cards use the host's login shell. |
Editor
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Open files with | VS Code | What the side panel's Files tab opens a file with: VS Code, Cursor, Zed, System default, or Custom command, run by your shell with the file's path added at the end. Editors not found on this computer show (not installed). See Side panel & files. |
Agents
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Notifications | On | Notifies you when an agent is waiting for you or needs your answer, unless you are looking at its card, and when a command that ran 10 s or more ends out of sight. On macOS the Dock shows how many are waiting. |
| Notification sound | On | Plays a tone with each notification. Only with Notifications on. |
| Claude Code status | On | Claude Code cards write a one-line agent status after every turn. Applies to cards started from then on. |
Shortcuts
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Show or hide Bikube (from any app) | None | The global shortcut, under Global. Clear removes it. |
| Open the next waiting card | On | Bringing Bikube forward with the global shortcut also opens the card that has waited longest. |
| Shortcuts In Bikube | See Keyboard shortcuts | Click one and press a new combination to change it; Reset brings back its default. |
Sync
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Sync folder | Off | A folder your own sync tool carries between machines, picked with Choose… or typed; Turn off or an empty field stops syncing. The status line under it shows the last sync. Kept per machine. See Sync folder. |

Saved without a setting
A few choices are saved with your settings without a row in the dialog: whether the side panel shows, its width and its tab. The main window's size and place are kept in a file of their own (see Where Bikube stores its data).
